Failed

After a week of drinking very sweet juices & being poked multiple times, I found out that I have failed my glucose test. :(
Today, my doctor gave me the official report that I am now diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. So far, our pregnancy has gone quite smoothly. I'm praying this will be just a bump in the road as we come to a finish. There is a small chance that I will continue to have the diabetes after the baby is born especially since it runs in my family. So, if any of you have any great sugar free or lower in carbs higher in protien type recipes, I'm all ears!! :)

Sorry to hear that, Pam! I also failed my glucose test with Chloe but after an additional test, was declared free of gestational diabetes. Did the docs give you any kind of menu/recipe suggestions?

Bummer! You failed a second, longer test? I sure hope that it doesn't cause any other complications.

I had to have a glucose test right away in this pregnancy as well as having a second one next week because Luke was over 9 pounds when he was born. I hope I get a passing grade!

Bummer. So will be giving yourself insulin shots or can it be taken care of by your diet?

So sorry to hear the news! I just took that test last Thursday....and I haven't heard anything back which may be a good thing. Hopefully you'll go back to normal after the baby is born, I don't think what you have is too uncommon among pregnant women. Still, it does stink!

Also, I'm glad to hear that your pregnancy has been otherwise healthy. Only a couple more months to go! Are you doing a nursery? If so, would you be willing to share some pictures? I'd love to see them!

I had the same thing Pam but was fine after she was born. It seems overwhelming at first but can be quite manageable. See if they'll pay for you to see a nutrtionist. They sent me to one and she gave me a booklet with foods and their carb values and what carb count was good to try to maintain for meals. They may also give you a free meter and strips to check your blood sugar with. The nice thing is that this test is in the later half of pregnancy so at least you don't have to do it the whole time.
