We're thinking of starting live in the 21st century, put away our film and begin to look for a digital camera. There are way too many to choose from! We talked to a (non-comission-the best kind!) saleswoman who told us to bide our time & then pounce on clearance models in October or November. Around this time all the brands unveil their new toys for the big kids in time for the holidays. Do you have a brand you recommend? We're looking at getting a 5 megapixel camera. Do you think this would be good enough for nice pics to do a Power Point presentation or DVD in case we use this camera for pics for our deputation presentation? Any help would be nice!

Josh and I have a Kodoak Easy Share camera and we absolutely love it! It takes great pictures and is very simple to use. We've had ours for 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it.

Carrie and I have a kodak as well. We love it. The church just got a new one (kodak as well) just this month and it is awesome. I can print crystal clear pictures in almost any size. It also does digital video with sound, which is a huge bonus. The software with the new camera is super simple and user friendly. The best part of the camera is the multiple options for picture taking: indoor, oudoor, action, black and white, etc. I would only get a kodak at this point in my ministry. They also don't burn through batteries. Hope this helps.

We too have a Kodak easy share! We have had it for a little over 2 years and are looking at replacing it...just to update it a little bit. We will be buying another Kodak easy share that is for sure! We love ours and it is so easy to work with!!!

It sounds like you guys know what you are looking for...good idea to wait till the "older" models go on sale!!!

I also had a Kodak easy share. Be careful not to let little kids drop it multiple times. If so it will stop working after only 1 year. At least that is what happened to mine. I bought a Nikon point and shoot. I prefer my old Kodak. I would go with Kodak and 5 megapixels should do the trick.

Our first digital was a Kodak easy share as well and it was very user-friendly and easy to use. However, after using it for a few years, it broke on us(and no one dropped it). My mom just bought us a new digi-camera for our 4th anniversary and it's SO much nicer than the Kodak easy share model. It's a 5 pixel Canon and now that we have a Canon, I don't think we'd ever go back to Kodak. The 5 pixels makes the shots really really clear and there are TONS of options/modes for picture taking (indoor, beach, kids/pets, fireworks, foliage, you name it!). I've also used our Canon to record Chloe and I'm in the process of putting it on a dvd. So far the recording quality has been terrific but I've been a bit of a shaky recorder.

With that said, I think Kodak is a great first-time camera to buy but if you are planning to use your camera for some high-tech stuff, I'd recommend Canon.

Do you have a mission field in mind yet?

Thanks, everyone! That's really helpful. We were thinking either Kodak or Canon, so it's funny to see how you all agreed with what we were thinking. Now it's time to scope out the sales!

Alicia,
We're going to start looking for assistant pastor positions in a couple months. Geoff wants a little experience before heading out to the mission field. We're thinking of Ecuador or somewhere in South America right now. We're just leaning on the Lord right now. :)

Do you all know spanish at all? Or have you been to south america for a short terms mission trip yet? How exciting!

Geoff has a minor in Spanish thanks to your sis. in law. :) I have 1 year from high school - big deal! Geoff has been to Honduras twice & Uruguay once, and I've been to Mexico. We'll probably head down to scope things out in a couple years. We have a lot of research & praying to do beforehand. Right now, we're just trying to focus on getting through seminary & seeing where God leads us after graduation. It might be 3-5 years before we start heading out the mission field. We'll wait and see.
