Time sure does fly when you're busy! My mom is a great seamstress - she didn't pass that on to me. I'm afraid of a sewing machine! My dad loves to work with wood & photography. So, I think I did get a little creativity from my parents - I learned to crochet!
My mom participates in a small craft show every year & she invited me to send some stuff to her. Well, since I'm a procrastinator, I don't have much to send. But I did crochet up 6 scarves and some of these angels. She's doing another one in a couple weeks, so if my things sell, I can send a couple more. Maybe I'll start my own on-line shop! Ok, try not to get carried away. I'll be happy if I can just make a little Christmas money. :)
During the 1st two weekends in Nov. I'll be participating in my craft/vendor shows, but displaying my Home & Garden Party products instead. I'm praying that I can get this business going consistently, so I can put a little more to our finances.
Last year, I participated in a gingerbread house contest at nearby shopping center called Peddler's Village. It has upscale shops & restaraunts, etc. Fun place to window shop! Anyways, they offer nice cash prizes for the winners of the contest. Check them out here! Mine didn't win, but I was so happy with the result. If I get inspiration, I get excited, and I was so excited about this house. (It's not the exact picture. Mine is still on that same roll
But, this year, I couldn't find anything I liked, so I thought I probably wouldn't do one. I did a last ditch effort of looking around the internet & found inspiration here. I found a couple other pics of the Old Lady in a Shoe, and will probably make mine a combination of their ideas. Now, I'm so excited, and ideas are rolling around in my head like crazy! So, the first week of Nov. will be dedicated to this project.
Ready or not, here we go!

I just found a really neat gingerbread train in a family fun magazine that I want to try to make this holiday season. I have never make a gingerbread structure before but I am looking forward to it.
I've seen trains & they can be great centerpieces and so cute! My advice would be space it out over a week, so you don't get overwhelmed. I bake a day, construct some a day, finish construction another day, etc. Also, if you're going to eat it, make sure you use edible icing, not Royal icing (it has uncooked egg whites in it). Have fun!
I recently learned how to use my sewing machine, and I would LOVE to learn how to crochet but it looks very difficult. One thing at a time, I guess.

Crocheting is incredibly easy! Honestly - you learn 4-5 stitches & off you go!
My scarves are already shipped off to CO - Sorry! Maybe my parents can take a quick picture for me. I'll try to remember to ask.

I don't think it'll be as hard as making a house! I bought a pair of boots at a thrift store ($2) & will trace a paper pattern on it. I'll cut my dough to that pattern, bake it flat on aluminum foil & while it's cooling, place the gingerbread on the boot to cool to the shape of the boot. It might take a couple tries, but I think it'll be ok!
